Javits Center Research

Jacob K. Javits Center, New York A square 27 m X 27 m structural bay which is around 88 ft. 3m X 3m grid spacing of truss. At 1.5m deep, the double-layer grid has a span/depth ratio of 18. The geometry and aesthetics maintain a 45 degree inclination of the diagonals when viewed in section and to ease the transition from horizontal to vertical at the vertical corners of the walls. The space grid is supported on "tree" type columns. The 4 separate "trunks" are 16 inch. diameter tubes. For the new expansion and renovation is main building will span 160 ft. column free in width.
