Elevations

After doing some research on materials. I decided to have zinc wall panels in an orthagonal grid system. I like the straight line pattern instead of the staggered look. For the base and core material, I decided to go with black slate brick. I think the bluish gray coloring of the zinc panels would go very well with the black stone look for the base. When you are inside the building especially the pool area you will see the black slate base wrapping around the central core. I played around with the coloring because black slate is not just black, its a mixture of grays so the elevations represent that. I think it looks very interesting. I will continue working on the interior elevations as well.

Wall Section?
Hey professor. I was just curious if you had that wall section detail on the zinc wall panels. Or if jesse had it and can post it on the blog. I found some simple diagrams showing how its constructed but I would like a little of information on them. Thanks.

South Facade Elevation

I've been playing around with different materials and how to represent the solid center core which supports the trusses on both sides. I was doing some research and I came across a projec that I found quite interesting. It's called Blaas by monovolume architecture and design. I want my building to be concrete and have curtain glass walls. This project is a good example of how both materials were combined to create a great facade. In some ways, it could be similar to my project in that the concrete/glass was used for structural purposes as well as for aesthetics. The poolside is a combination of concrete panels and glass with concrete horizontal louviers to reduce sun. In addition, I reorganized the columns so they are not angled (which drew attention to and would need much further investigation and research to see if it was really necessary.) The other side I played around with the amount of louviers used the spacing on them. I wanted to have maximized views to the outside but at the same time reduce sunlight and create some privacy on the fourth floor where the community area would be, so I reduced the spacing on the louviers to create that privacy but still have semi open for views. I would like ur opinion of this facade. The only concern I now have is if it's too much glass and would be at risk of major heat loss.

Section of building
This is a section of the building I've been working on. I want to detail more of the structure and how its put together but I'm not too sure what to do. We can discuss it in class tomorrow. Everyone seems to work out in plan and the section is coming together smoothly. I'm trying to focus on elevations now and see how the structural columns work with the glass curtain walls.

Javits Center Research
Jacob K. Javits Center, New York A square 27 m X 27 m structural bay which is around 88 ft. 3m X 3m grid spacing of truss. At 1.5m deep, the double-layer grid has a span/depth ratio of 18. The geometry and aesthetics maintain a 45 degree inclination of the diagonals when viewed in section and to ease the transition from horizontal to vertical at the vertical corners of the walls. The space grid is supported on "tree" type columns. The 4 separate "trunks" are 16 inch. diameter tubes. For the new expansion and renovation is main building will span 160 ft. column free in width.
